…the daythis reelposted, I was ecstatic that it got 2k views…how exciting!
Then we woke up to 12k views and that was unreal.
After a week we were at 240k views, 12.1k likes and 148 comments and all I could think was…
“They like me! They really like me!!”
I had someone ask me why I thought this reel did so well compared to my other reels and the answer was simple…
I looked goooood that day. Hair was on point, car lighting had me all glowed up and my Valentine’s nails were poppin’.
But my SECOND thought was relatability.
A lot of us are going through motherhood or parenthood just stumbling along and trying to figure it out as we go.
So it’s helpful to share the wins!
My reel actually refers to a reel I saw about a girl who grew up with a mom that always said, “I love you more than…” and I decided to share my story of trying that with one of our kids.
The results were priceless.
Steve and I have a son who is inherently clumsy.
We joke often that this child has not met a drink that he hasn’t spilt.
On this particular evening, he was carrying a pitcher of juice and, while he walked, he tipped it forward and spilled it all over a rug.
I immediately said, “not a big deal! I love you more than that rug! Just grab a rag and clean it up.”
And before he could start beating himself up for it, or feel the shame of everyone watching him, that’s what he did.
He cleaned it up.
Someone said once, “when a kid spills the milk, they don’t need a lecture, they need a rag.”
This has always stuck with me and I love it.
Besides how that interaction might have made my son feel, the way it made me feel to tell a child that I love them more than the rug they just spilled on, changed the feeling of the whole interaction and my heart.
So your challenge this week is to tell your kid (and your husband…and even yourself!), “I love you more than that car/rug/shirt/mess/any material thing.”, and then let me know how it goes!
In the meantime…I hope you’re snuggling up with you kids in one of ourpriceless minkiesevery night. Because bedtime matters.
